Snow Is Kept At High Quality
One valid concern many skiers have when choosing a destination for a ski trip is the snow quality. The snow at Ellmau in Austria is kept at ideal volume and quality due to naturally occurring snow and the excellent system they have in place for making snow. The 210km of ski runs are kept snow-covered by using 1,000 snow cannons when natural snow abates. Ellmau is located with most of its pistes, or trails, on the north face of the mountain, which means that trails are shaded from direct sun for most of the day.
Ellmau’s ski slopes begin in the village with runs for beginners and intermediate skiers being the first pistes, or ski trails, found by skiers. Trails are well-marked with blue or red markings so skiers know which ones are best for them to use. Some runs at Ellmau have the feel of older, more traditional ski runs and can be imposing for some inexperienced skiers. There are plenty of areas where beginners and new intermediate skiers feel very comfortable, however. There is also enough challenge on the trails at Ellmau for excellent skiers to have a good time.
Easy Access To Twenty Ski Lifts
Visitors reach the top of the trails either by taking the Hartkaiser Mountain Railway or by using either chairlift’s or tow lifts. There are 20 ski lifts in all for skiers to choose from. These ski lifts are able to lift 136,000 skiers and snowboarders per hour. The slopes can be very busy, but usually do not have a crowded feel to them. The pistes at Ellmau range from 6 black pistes for experts at 27km to 64 blue pistes at 120km, 53 red pistes at 132km and 2 green pistes.
Ellmau’s ski trails normally open in early December and stay open until the first week of April. Of course, the exact dates are subject to change depending on the weather and on the snow conditions. Trails available include 250km of downhill pistes and 180km of cross-country ski pistes. In total, there are 618 ski trails available to ski and snowboard enthusiasts.
This is a choice of three unique ski schools. All schools can serve the needs of beginners, intermediate skiers and excellent skiers. The largest ski school is The Ellmauer Skischule. There are 50 talented teachers ready to help students improve their skills.
